Abstract

This chapter describes why assessment is important in Minimal Access Surgery. It also explores the different types of assessment including formative and summative and how can both types be utilised in education and training in MAS. The importance of assessment within the context of Curriculum-Based Assessment is also addressed. Kirkpatrick’s model of assessment including its components is also discussed in this chapter. In addition, several tools of operative technical skills assessment in MAS are examined in this chapter including the role of self assessment in MAS. Finally, the concept of accreditation in MAS is also discussed in this chapter.
