Abstract

In recent years, a number of reliable measurements have been made on the thermochemical properties of seawater at 1 atm from 0 degree to 40 degree C. From this thermochemical data, it is possible to characterize completely the thermodynamic properties of seawater. The purpose of this paper is to analyze completely this data and tabulate the most reliablethermodynamic data for seawater at 1 atm. The use of the thermodynamic properties of seawater in obtaining information concerning the structure of seawater as a multicomponent electrolyte solution may eventually prove to be of great importance in understanding how seawater affects the bio- and geo-chemical processes occurring in the oceans.
