Framing Urban Movements, Contesting Global Capitalism and Liberal Democracy

Abstract

The author discusses the notions of urban movements and urban activism in relation to significant societal contexts and different forms of urban politics. Additionally, four categories of urban activism and movements are distinguished and illustrated with various examples from southern Europe and Latin America. The chapter summarises some theoretical conclusions stemming from the literature in order to nuance the analysis of urban movements’ outcomes to shape the production, governance and change of cities.
