Abstract

This chapter highlights both injuries and illnesses related to wakeboarding; differences between wakeboarding behind the boat and cable wakeboarding are discussed. The knee, shoulder and head are most frequently involved in acute injuries, while overuse injuries include patellar tendinopathy and other tendinopathies. Wakeboarding might be associated with a risk of waterborne infections, depending on geographical location, and ultraviolet radiation is a significant and important risk factor for both nonmelanoma and melanoma skin cancer. Specific means of prevention are discussed.
