Abstract

Subtractive hybridization and differential display techniques were used to isolate clones for early nodulin genes in M. truncatula. The increased sensitivity of both techniques in comparison to conventional differential screening allowed the isolation of clones for genes whose transcripts are not abundant, but are specifically induced during nodulation. Advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are discussed.
