The article focuses on early 20th century boarding schools for Indians and the perception of city and rural life among the elite social classes in Mexico and Bolivia. The author discusses early 20th century Mexican and Bolivian views regarding Indian education and the move to relocate Indian boarding schools from the city to rural settings. She also reflects on the notions of urban(modern) - rural(primitive) contrast held by the elite classes in both countries and the place where Indians more naturally belong.
