Background: Fisherman families in Puger Wetan, Jember Regency are at risk of experiencing food insecurity due to fluctuating incomes, making it difficult to access food. To meet the food and nutritional needs of fishermen in Puger Wetan, Jember Regency, they are trying to do a food coping strategy to avoid food shortages. Objectives: This paper, therefore, described food insecurity and analyzes the process of determining food coping strategies by fishermen families in Puger Wetan. Methods: This research used observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to explore food coping strategies by 20 fishermen families were labor fishers, single fishers, and skippers in Krajan and Mandaran sub-village, Puger Wetan for eight months (July 2019-February 2020). This study focuses on discussing the three pillars of household food insecurity in-depth, namely non-availability of food, lack of food access, and improper utilization of food as predictors of food coping strategi. The information was analyzed using thematic analysis which is then presented in the form of narratives and charts. Results: Fisher families in Puger Wetan have done scale 1 to scale 3 of food coping strategy since non-availability of food and lack of economic access to get food in laéb season and moderate season. The seven priorities food coping strategies were sided jobs, selling household assets, migrating, receiving food from closest people, changing the priority of food purchase, reducing the eating frequency, and skipping the entire day without eating.
