Abstract

Clinical alarms are developed by device manufacturers to alert clinical staff to changes in the patient's physiologic condition or system errors. Alarm fatigue occurs when clinical staff are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of nuisance or non-actionable alarms occur. Alarm fatigue has potential to negatively impact the patient and clinical staff leading to life-threatening outcomes.
