Over the past decade several educational leaders have implemented character education programs to improve student behavior and academic performance. Sports have been identified as an effective approach through which positive character can be taught and practiced and experiential learning through field trips can be associated with an increase in knowledge when students practice concepts taught in the classroom during real life situations. The purpose of this study was to examine whether a sport-based field trip increased student character trait knowledge. A significant change in character trait knowledge occurred from pre-to-post field trip.
