Abstract

Skiing and snowboarding are two of the most popular winter sports in the world today. Both skiing and snowboarding involve variable conditions, often high speeds, and navigating around other slope users of varying ability level. Unsurprisingly this leads to a fairly high injury rate among participants of both sports. This chapter explores the current state of the literature surrounding skiing and snowboarding injuries, examines the most common injuries typically seen in beginners to experts, and addresses potential strategies to minimize the risks associated with these sports.
