Abstract

While some complications are universal to any surgical procedure, bariatric procedures have their own set of unique complications. Long-term follow-up is vital for any bariatric procedure, especially gastric bypass. Most clinicians are knowledgeable regarding the more common complications that may develop after gastric bypass. However, there are also a number of less common and even quite uncommon complications that may occur. Therefore, heightened physician awareness to these rare complications is crucial as some problems are easily treated. In addition, serious and devastating outcomes can be avoided with a high index of suspicion and a low threshold for intervention.
