The waqf of Çelebi Mehmed known as the Yeşil İmaret was one of the biggest waqfs in Bursa. Holding large urban and rural revenue sources, the waqf enjoyed a significant economic power both in regional and town economy. Therefore, the financial situation of the waqf can be used as an indicator for the local economic conditions. Studying the financial history of the Yeşil İmaret and of the other large waqfs in Bursa reveals the rural and urban economic developments in the region of Bursa in the 16th and 17th centuries. This article is a part of such a wider project and presents the preliminary results obtained through the financial analysis of the Yeşil İmaret.
