Abstract

To understand the various anatomic abnormalities of the heart, we first need to appreciate the structure of the normal heart. So as to describe the cardiac components in appropriate fashion, it is also necessary to appreciate the location of the normallystructured heart within the thorax. Thereafter, we can describe the location and morphology of the cardiac chambers and arterialtrunks, the arrangement of their vascular supply, and the location of the so-called specialized conducting tissues.
