Abstract

Possibility of carbon credit introduction to tropical peatland is studied by referring several system on carbon credit. The goal of this chapter is to describe the present international and Japanese carbon credit current trend and REDDCprojects. Firstly, I would like to clarify the important role of forest for climate change from the report of IPCC and describe the historical outlook of REDDC. Secondly, the market-based approach is analyzed from the Kyoto Protocol, international market, and carbon-offset. Thirdly, Japanese policy and legal countermeasures on climate change are described, in focusing on a market-based credit system such as the JCredit system as a domestic scheme and JCM as an international scheme.
