This article discusses the relationship between rijsttafel and the Javanese elite lifestyle in Vorstenlanden from the 1900 to 1942 period. Dining is one of several things that greatly influence one's behavior. Rijsttafel, which is a mixed cultural product between the Dutch and the Javanese, was used as a medium for the Javanese elite to become part of the European society. At the meal time, the elite was not only having a meal, but also seeking political and social influence. In this sense, the Javanese elite did not only adopt the European lifestyle, but also pursued political opportunities and social status. They were known as the caretaker of Javanese culture who supposedly imparted Javanese values in their daily lives, but they did not really carry out their duty.
