Abstract

Crustaceans, insects, cephalopod molluscs, and vertebrates are the four highest developed animal groups. These four groups of animals exhibit endocrine glands and hormonal control of life function. Concerning the insects which comprise approximately 1 million known species which are described and 5 to 7 million species which are assumed to be alive in Blatta, Blattella and Periplaneta the capability of learning and recollection are proven (A. Kaestner, Lehrb. d. Spe. Zoologie (1973) vol. I, pt. 3, Insecta B p. 365). Orcadian rhythms of activity (depending on light and temperature) are known from Blattella orientalis, Blatta germanica, Periplaneta americana and Leucophaea sp.
