Abstract

Due to the trend towards assisted and autonomous driving, the topic of safety of the intended function (SOTIF) becomes important. Since the technology is very new and poses new risks that have not been explicitly addressed by international standards in a holistic way, the ISO TC22/SC32/WG8 decided years ago to close this gap. The first result was the ISO/PAS 21448, released in 2018. Based on this publically available standard (PAS), the WG8 is developing an international standard (IS) in the next 3 years that can cope with one of the biggest challenges in the history of mobility. This paper introduces the topic of SOTIF and the ISO/PAS 21448 and gives insight into the current state of the standardization.
