Risk and protective factors for cyberbullying perpetration and victimization

Abstract

Bullying perpetration and victimization continues to be a public health concern in the United States and abroad. In the early 1990s the focus was on traditional interpersonal bullying, but as face-to-face communication has expanded into online settings, bullying has also moved into the realm of cyberspace. In recent years, there have been several studies examining various aspects of cyberbullying. This chapter reviews the research on risk and protective factors associated with cyberbullying perpetration and cyberbullying victimization. Future research needs and implications for prevention and intervention are also discussed.
