Abstract

Over the last decade, New Zealand's education system has undergone significant change. This has resulted in increased teacher workloads. Debates and discussions have also become commonplace amongst educators throughout New Zealand. These are also exciting times with the advancement of technology, bringing with it renewed teaching practices and pedagogy. Spatial technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow students to explore and manipulate information directly (Fig. 20.1), bringing further possibilities and innovations in education.
