Development communication is increasingly engaged in a professionalisation process. Cooperation agents (from multilateral agencies to NGOs) and mass media are dedicating more and more space and resources to hunger, sustainable development or health issues. Information treatment and development communication strategies that are being used are complex and require higher knowledge from professionals. Development academics have been involved in theoretical debates away from professional practise. This article explores the relationship between university and communication development professional practise, analysing possible synergies and consensus that can promote more democratic and ambiently, socially and culturally fairer societies.
