Abstract

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) and Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) are the most promising fields of research and development of wireless network. VANET is one the most challenging flavor of MANET due to high and unpredictable dynamic topology, frequent disconnections and life threatening issues. The present paper emphasizes the importance of studying VANET as a separate discipline although it is a part of MANET. This paper presents a relative study of MANET and VANET and also describes whether the approaches and protocol applicable to MANET are equally applicable to VANET or not. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.
