Abstract

The field of laparoscopic surgery is ideally suited for simulation. Laparoscopy has blossomed alongside the growth of technology. From rudimentary box trainers to high-fidelity virtual reality simulators, learners have a plethora of options for learning laparoscopic skills outside of the operating room. The Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) curriculum was developed to ensure trainees have the essential skills needed to perform basic laparoscopy. At a national level, the American Board of Surgery has embraced FLS and incorporated it into a requirement for certification.
