The Giants of Mechanics

Abstract

In the following, I present brief descriptions of individuals who have made major contributions to the fi eld of mechanics. For each individual, their scholarly activities follow a listing of their place of birth, primary associations, and lifespan. The public is aware of many of these individuals, at least by name; those who have experience in science and engineering will recognize most of the others. Without doubt, the listing is somewhat selective, and others might have been included as well. The more I researched the topic, the more scholars I wanted to include in the listing.
