In conclusion, VMOs can be a valuable and legitimate use of military medical resources in support of the wider counterinsurgency campaign by increasing access to health services for local communities. This chapter describes the policy framework and practical guidance for undertaking VMOs within the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
