Abstract

Gamification can be applied to multimedia visitor guidance systems (also known as eGuides) for the sake of raising engagement and improving experiences of their users. It involves the use of dedicated software for managing the game state and processing the game rules. This paper addresses the problems of an effective implementation of the latter element, proposing a rule execution mechanism dedicated for an eGuide gamification web service. It describes the architecture of the mechanism, its main algorithm, and the technology of implementation. The presented results of performance testing in a simulated environment show that the developed solution can effectively handle a volume of requests characteristic even for large tourist attractions.
