Abstract

Employees perceive their jobs subjectively, and their perceptions are influenced by symbolic messages sent by those around them. Managers uncareful about the symbols they create can adversely affect job perceptions. Of particular importance are the symbolic messages imbedded in what managers say, what they do, and where they interact. © 1981, The Regents of the University of California. All rights reserved.
