Brief Introduction to Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR)

Abstract

Although this book is mainly devoted to the understanding of CMR materials, it is also important to include a chapter on the famous ``giant'' — as opposed to colossal — MR devices. These devices have already found their way into real technological applications, after a very rapid transition from their discovery, as part of basic research investigations, to commercialization in the form of read heads for magnetic hard-disk drives.
