Abstract

Despite the advent of modern laser devices which aim to reduce downtime following treatments, fully ablative laser systems remain the ‘gold standard ‘in the treatment of several skin conditions. The dermatological indications for ablative laser systems surpass those of all other lasers which work on the principles of selective photothermolysis. Used judiciously and in trained hands, these devices are very versatile dermatological surgical tools. However, more extensive training is required to achieve clinically useful results and while reducing risk of complications when compared with other laser systems.
