This paper presents a summary of the "Preliminary Inventory on Sources and Sinks of Greenhouse Gases in Venezuela', submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Chlorofluorocarbons are excluded as they are controlled by the Montreal Protocol. The energy sector is the most important anthropogenic source of greenhouse gas emissions in Venezuela, followed closely by land use change, and then by agriculture. Emissions come mainly from the use of energy as fuel, deforestation, and from fugitive emissions generated by oil and gas production. Carbon dioxide is the most important gas. Its emissions originate primarily from fuel combustion and forest clearing. Methane originates primarily from oil and gas production and agricultural activities. -from Authors
