The Role of the Environment in Student Ethical Behavior

Abstract

Developing citizens of character has been a key goal of higher education for many years. However, obtaining this objective can be challenging since there are many factors that can influence students’ thought and behavior. In this article, I describe some of the research on student academic honesty, Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory of Moral Thought and Action, and ways that faculty, student affairs professionals, and administrators can positively influence students’ actions.
