Abstract

Clostridium difficile (toxin) associated typhlitis was diagnosed in untreated barrier-maintained specific pathogen free guineapigs. It resembled the pathological lesions of antibiotic induced enterocolitis. The possible role of limited colonization resistance to C. difficile provided by mouse enteric microflora in the pathogenesis of the disease is discussed. © 1989, Royal Society of Medicine Press.
