Abstract

(from the chapter) Given the vast and pervasive use of social media by pediatric oncology patients and their families (as well as by providers in our field), it is our responsibility as psychosocial providers to be aware of the why's and how's of social media use in the context of matters of health. This chapter will first outline the various types of social media available, and how these different media tend to be used. With this framework in place, we can better appreciate both the opportunities and challenges presented to psychosocial providers by these technological advances.
