Tumors of the spinal column in pediatric age group have distinct features in regard to diagnosis and management. Primary lesions are far more common compared to adults. Some tumors such as leukemia may be almost specific to this age group as well. On the other hand, the general principles of evaluation, staging, biopsy, and treatment are not different from the guidelines established for the general population. Profound knowledge of the principles of musculoskeletal tumor surgery as well as an understanding of the specific difficulties of oncological surgery in the spinal column is essential.
