The use of medical drugs such as Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) and Ritalin (methylphenidate) by healthy adults for enhancement of cognitive function is a social trend that has gained in momentum (see, e.g., DeSantis et al. in J Am Coll Health 57(3):315–324, 2008; Maher in Nature 452(7188):674–675, 2008; Ragan et al. in Neuropharmacology 64:588–595, 2012), and accordingly has generated a lot of attention in academia (for an overview see Racine in Pragmatic neuroethics: improving treatment and understanding of the mind-brain. MIT Press, Cambridge, 2010, Chap. 6).
