Palliative care (from the Latin palliare, ``to cloak'') describes any form of medical care or treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than striving to halt, delay, or reverse the progression of the disease itself, or provide a cure. A number of definitions of palliative care exist in the literature, including the recent World Health Organization's statement [1] that describes:
