Abstract

In order to use the tree ring data with maximum effectiveness, it is necessary to concentrate efforts in those areas and on those taxa that will yield long, accurately dated, and climatically indicative series of data. Annual ring characteristics, limiting factors and climatic responsiveness, sensitivity and cross-dating, tree and radius selection and data networks are discussed. Cook and Baillie comment on LaMarche's paper. -L.F.Musk
