Abstract

Caregiver support groups are often led by volunteer lay leaders who might have personal experiences with Alzheimer's disease. This article offers 10 steps in what to consider and how to conduct training for these lay leaders so that the success of the support groups can be maximized. Steps include helping trainees understand their own feelings and the feelings of their group members as well as teaching about the stages that groups typically experience from beginning to termination and the role of the leader at each stage. © The Author(s) 2010.
