Abstract

This chapter outlines the first detections of interfacial segregation in the past centuries, introduces the term “segregation” as it appears in metallurgy, and explains the difference among its three types – macrosegregation in casts, microsegregation in case of dendritic crystallisation and nanosegregation as the grain boundary enrichment by the impurity/solute atoms.
