Abstract

Objective: To analyze the quality of life of hemodialysis patients (patients who receive hemodialysis) in a Nephrological Unit from a hospital in the northwestern region of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil. Methods: A study of several analysis centers, quantitatively. Data collected from April to August 2010. 77 out of 102 users who were invited, accepted. Instruments that were used: sociodemographics data, Kidney Disease and Quality of Live-Short Form (KDQOL-SFTM). Results: They were mainly male (70.1%) who were between 50-70 years old, 59.7% married, with children, low education (76.6%) and retired (79.2%). The 48.8% assessed their health more or less good and a 44.2% as good. Dimensions with lower average scores: "work situation"(20.78), "physical function"(22.8%) and "emotional function"(25.97), with median zero. The dimension "stimulation by the team (96.43) had the highest average and median 100. Conclusion: Dialysis sustains life, relieve symptoms, prevent complications but it does not prevent the disease progression. There are negative interferences in the quality of life such as the work situation, physical and emotional function. In contrast, it affects positively in the good relationship x user team.
