Abstract

This is a comparison of regional cultural variations between two groups of Ainu. One group represents a more typical hunting‐gathering population; the other has a larger sedentary population which is also based on hunting and gathering. Some of the significant cultural variations may be explained in terms of differences in basic ecological factors .
