Abstract

THE existence of nitrides of the compositions Si3N4, Si3N2, SiN1and Ge3N4, Ge3N22 has been reported in the literature. The formation of two nitrides of silicon by nitriding the metal at about 1,400°C. has been reported recently3,4; Turkdogan and Ignatowicz state that one has the composition Si3N4 and that the other is a lower nitride, of composition very close to Si3N 4. © 1957 Nature Publishing Group.
