Research is to a certain extent a victim of current trends. In dermatological sciences, the decade of the 1970s was dominated by the rapidly evolving immunological techniques. The last two decades of the twentieth century saw an expansion of molecular techniques and genetic tools as the main instruments. Lost in the wealth of research weapons was a global interpretation of research data, an assessment of the relation between the new facts and the structurefunction relationships of the organs and organisms studied.
