Abstract

Administration of 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone to guinea-pigs increases colonic permeability. The transfer of99mTc-labelled EDTA from mucosa to serosa was markedly increased in vivo. In one hour 25% of the administered radioactive compound leaked out of the colon to concentrate in the urine. A similar enhanced complex transfer was observed following administration of salicylic acid and dinitrophenol (DNP), respectively 14% and 12%. The increased permeability could be restored to nearly normal values after 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine (TAP) injection in the colon segment. © 1981 Bohn, Scheltema & Holkema.
