System Usability Scale Evaluation of E-Participation in Malaysia

Abstract

E-government holds tremendous potential for improving the authoritative effectiveness of public institutions, empowering democratic governance, and building trust between citizens/private sector and governments. One of the module in e-government that are expanding gain consideration is e-participation. However, most e-government activities to date have neglected to achieve their maximum capacity, since they are progressively tormented by usability issues. Therefore, there have been expanding calls for assessing the usability of e-government sites, as they are broadly viewed as the essential stage for government communication with citizens. This empirical study, therefore seeks to extant knowledge by assessing the usability of Malaysia e-government site concentrating on the e-participation. This is especially vital as little is known about the usability of e-participation and four ministries websites were selected for such evaluation. A total of 10 participants volunteered in this study that employed System Usability Scale method. Analysis of the SUS demonstrated that the usability of the chosen site was marginal with all the average usability score was below 70%.
