Abstract

This chapter summarizes the main achievements in quantum chemical modeling of metal-nucleic acid interactions. The topics discussed cover a wide range of problems taken from bio-inorganic chemistry starting from the nature of metal-nucleobase and metal-phosphate interactions, through joint binding modes to the phosphate and nucleobase moieties in nucleosides, up to the mechanism of action of platinum-based metallodrugs. The examples shown are of biological relevance and are aimed at understanding experimentally known phenomena. © 2006 Springer.
