Micas are susceptible to the usual alteration by hydrolysis, dissolution, etc., but their vulnerability to attack varies with their expansion by an exchange of interlayer K with hydrated cations. In addition, some micas contain Fe, which adds another dimension to their weathering by making them responsive to the redox status of their environment. -from Author
