Abstract

The advantages of composite materials for marine structures, notably their high specific properties, resistance to degradation in water, and flexible fabrication to produce special shapes, become even more valuable when underwater applications are considered. Nevertheless, apart from a few exceptions there are not many structural applications of composites underwater at present. The reasons will be discussed here. Three types of application will be considered:(i)Oceanographic(ii)Submarine(iii)Offshore
