The article focuses on researcher Barbara White in context of scholar, mentor and colleague. Topics discussed include Barbara's research on metacognition despite being told by National Science Foundation's program officer Nora Sabelli that there will be funding for physics education research, creation of the Masters and Credential in Science and Mathematics Education (MACSME) preservice program by Barbara in collaboration with Alan Schoenfeld, and views of student Hillary Swanson on Barbara.
