Abstract

A profile is a protocol from implementation of functions in a field device such as a temperature sensor, a valve, or a pressure transducer. In the case of Profibus-PA the profiles are developed on the basis of the functional model which has long been of proven value in process engineering. The profile describes the tasks of the functional blocks in the distributed system, control data exchange and the integration of components into automation equipment such as sensors, actuators, and control systems.
