Abstract

The article sets out a general critical review of evaluation. We begin by providing an outline of the eight major principles of the philosophy of evaluation before submitting them to a critical examination. The article shows how, despite its weaknesses and contradictions, evaluation is the object of a collective belief which is becoming the centre of the contemporary exercise of domination and a new form of government.
